WILL THEY EVER GET TOGETHER AGAIN? is a pair of two exceptionally large complementary rug-islands which are irregular and capriciously shaped. It is a divided work symbolising (ex)lovers and the energy-flow in life. The rugs are made of sustainable left-over sheepskins.
The black version: width 450 cm x height 440. The white version: width 430 cm x height 370 cm.
The conceptual rugs express the ending of a relationship, when both partners need to go their own way. In line with splitting up partners, the rugs are sold separately. The question remains wether or not - after they have been sold - the rugs will ever get together again.
Once fitted perfectly in each other now each one is going its own way, like Islands in the stream, or literally islands in a space.
The conceptual design is based on introspection - how love-affairs develop - and the Eastern philosophy about the dynamics of all life. Combined with some light-heartedness - to play and shuffle the rugs around and the poetic depth of its message; saying that nothing will stay forever. Heraclitus’ panta rhei, everything flows.
The rugs are made from left-over Icelandic sheepskins which are sustainable tanned and sewn together by hand. The hairs are extremely long and soft while the rugs are rough and whimsically shaped with several pointy cuts that fit like puzzle pieces. Yin the largest, is black, and has a rectangular back. Yang is the white rug which is a bit smaller, and looks slightly rounder.
